About the course
AP Language and Composition offers college
level instruction emphasizing the close reading of non-fiction texts.
Class reading will emphasize non-fiction writing such as editorials,
journalistic pieces, letters, speeches, and longer works of literary
non-fiction. Students are urged to become citizens of
the world by becoming citizen rhetors, viewing themselves as public intellectuals whose sources of
information includes newspaper and journals of record, classic texts, quality media, and
conversation. Students will learn to distinguish the stylistic and
rhetorical devices writers use to make meaning.
About the teacher
Teaching ELA 11, AP Language and
Composition and advising yearbook keeps me busy. In an attempt to keep
up with the kids' love for technology, I am incorporating Google docs,
blogging, and Moodle into my classroom. My goals are to make feedback
more immediate for the students, give them tools to use outside of the
classroom to manage ELA content, and help parents feel better informed.
In 2011-12 I will have two blended learning/flexible attendance
classes--a new and exciting adventure!
